BLAH, BLAH, BLAH! Albert Smalbert! Still not as great as the National League Batting Champ! Chipper Jones Wins National League Baseball Batting Title!!!!!!!! Uncle Mark
Chipper Jones, Atlanta Braves slugger has won the National League batting title at the age of 36, making him the oldest switch hitting baseball player to do so.
At 36, he batted .364 this season, a career high. He outbat, Cardinals slugger Albert Pujols who batted .357 this year.
Barry Bonds has the highest ever National League batting title number at .370 which he achieved in 2002.
“It’s a tremendous feather in the cap, from an individual standpoint,” Jones said. “It’s one of those things that brings instant credibility. Hopefully, I already had it around the league. But once you have the label of batting champion, you’re respected and recognized by that.”
“When I was growing up, there were two guys that I wanted to be mentioned with, when I was done playing: Mickey Mantle and Eddie Murray,” Jones said. “I’m starting to reach that kind of company now and I’m honored and humbled to be there.”
Unfortunately for Jones, his team did not live up to pre-season expectations, and they will be watching from home this post season.
